My name is Daryl and I am a guide for Critter Gitter Outfitters. I bought Hawk Optics Varmint SF 4-16×44, I have to say for under $200 these scopes are hard to beat. The Varmint SF has an adjustable parallax (puts crosshairs and the target on the same focal plane) and is very clear, even at high magnifications. Underneath the scope turret covers there are low profile target turrets, which are easy to read and can be set back to zero. It has a mil-dot reticle that has .5 mil reference points, the mils are true at 10x and is very helpful with range estimation (I will do a separate article on mils and range estimation). Well, as we all know; The biggest problem with ALL scopes is the Lens Covers. ( they tend to fall off!) And once lost, very difficult to find!
Mine was lost, but i was very lucky to have found it! So i found a very simple remedy, TAPE! As ya can see, mine wont be falling off any more! And the camo doesnt hurt either! Now i can take my Hawke Sport Optics scope into the field with greater peace of mind!
Well, I have to say this is one awesome scope.
I replaced another brand with this one, and upon zeroing, it took 3 shots (walked in) to get zero'd.
After being satisfied with zero I proceeded to check-verify zero. At 100 yds could cover the shot group with a DIME! All 3 shots were touching! I then proceeded to take shots at different places on multiple targets, after firing 6 rounds, all hit at dead center bullzeye! Later I decided to try a different bullet as this was mounted on my 243, Savage Arms. Also plan on using same for deer hunting this year!
